Hi there!
I'm Alexandra Larion - a Romanian-born, Scotland-based watercolour artist- and if you're wondering how long I've been doing this: since before I can really remember. I tried, more than once, to talk myself into a "sensible" career. It never stuck. Turns out I'm a moth, and art is my flame that I've stopped fighting.

My work draws from a few places. There's David Hockney's colour, John Singer Sargent's texture, Beatrix Potter's whimsy - three very different artists, but each of them taught me something about how to make a scene feel alive on the page. And then there's Scotland itself. When I moved here in 2021, it became my muse without me really asking it to. The landscapes, the light, the quiet drama of the place found their way into everything I made.

These days that fascination has shrunk down to something smaller and just as magical: the mushrooms, birds, and creatures tucked into Scotland's countryside, each one with a story I try to tell in a few brushstrokes.
I live in Glasgow with my husband, Connor, who is by my side every step of the way.
2012
I started my Fine Art training in 2012, with a Bachelor's in Graphic Arts at the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca, Romania,
followed by a Master's at the same university and time spent studying in Krakow and Katowice in Poland.
How I became an ArtistÂ

2017
In 2017, wanting to understand art from a different angle, I moved to London for an MA in Museums, Galleries, and Contemporary Culture at the University of Westminster.
2017-2023
Along the way, I worked as a Gallery Assistant at Getty Images London, a Gallery Administrator at the University of Westminster, and an Art Technician at a secondary school — before training further with a PGDE in Art and Design at Strathclyde University in Glasgow.
Every one of those roles taught me something about how people connect with art, and I carry a little of each into every commission I paint today.
Today
Based in Scotland, I spend my time between markets, galleries, and commissions — painting live at weddings and events, and capturing pets and the moments people want to hold onto.
My work has been shown at the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh, the Royal Highland Centre, and galleries across Scotland, notably the Scottish Design Exchange. When I'm not at a wedding or in the studio, you can find me at markets from Edinburgh to Newcastle, Ayr to Dundee.
